Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris is an American politician. Born on the 20th of October 1964, she is the 49th Vice-President of the United States. She is also the first female vice-president and the highest-ranking female official in U.S. History, as well the first African American and second Asian American vice president. She is a member of Congress and a former US senator representing California. Harris was born and was raised in Oakland, California. Her first job was with the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Harris was later recruited to join the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003 she was elected San Francisco's district attorney. In 2010 she was elected Attorney General of California and was re-elected in 2014. Harris was the United States junior senator from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez to become the second African American woman senator and the first South Asian American ever to be elected to the United States Senate. As Senator, Harris was a vocal advocate for federal de-scheduling of healthcare, and cannabis legalization which could lead to the citizenship for immigrants who are not legally documented, and the DREAM Act which bans assault weapons. She is best known for her sharp questions to Trump administration officials in Senate hearings.
